The conference for Technology Entertainment and Design (TED) has made its talks from past years conferences available online. I have decided to watch one of them each night until I am done.
Last night I watched Burt Rutan’s talk. Great speech. I really enjoyed watching him talk, and his lamb chops. Woah his lamb chops. I may blog about him later.
But tonight I am watching Richard Dawkins’ talk. He of The Selfish Gene. He is discussing our perception of the world verses how the world truly exists. How the Universe is far stranger that our senses let us see.
A quote from the talk:
You and I are, ourselves, more like a wave than a permanent thing… think of an event from your childhood, something that you can clearly remember. Something you can smell, hear and touch as if you were really there. After all, you really were there. But here is the bombshell… you WEREN’T there. Not a single atom that is in your body today was there when that even took place. Matter flows from place to place and momentarily comes together to be you. Whatever you are, therefore, you are NOT the stuff from which you are made.
Highly recommend watching this one.
